The Performance Indicators in Primary Schools (PIPS) Project is one of the family of information systems offered by the CEM Centre at Durham University. The CEM Centre has provided value-added information for schools and colleges since 1983. CEM also offers the MidYIS, Yellis and ALIS projects for secondary schools as well as a range of cross-school solutions.

PIPS tracks a number of aspects of schooling as pupils move through the primary sector. We gather data on individual pupils using assessment materials that are quick and easy to administer. These data are processed at Durham and the results passed to schools. The results allow schools to look objectively at the progress and attitudes of individual pupils. PIPS feedback also enables teachers to judge their school’s performance within the context of others using the assessments at the same time, whilst protecting the confidentiality of each school. The intention is to promote school improvement by providing professionals with high quality information.
